Crochet Jar Cover #2
You may need to adjust this pattern to what kind of jar and/or yarn you are using. I used a yarn called Satúrnus and I think it's only available in Iceland (100% mercerized cotton - 200 g - approx. 680 m), 2,0 mm crochet hook and a jar (mine is approx. 15 cm high and 28 cm wide).
Abbreviations (US terms):
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch,
sc = single crochet,
dc = double crochet,
tr = treble crochet,
sp = space,
st = stitch,
sk = skip,
rnd = round,
[...]x2 = make content two times.
The bottom:
Make magic ring.
Round 1. ch 3 (counts as dc), 11 dc in ring, join with sl st into 3rd ch. Pull magic circle tight (total 12 dc).
Round 2. ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in same st, *2 dc in each st* repeat between * * around, join with sl st into 3rd ch (total 24 dc).
Round 3. ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in same st, 1 dc, *2 dc in same st, 1 dc* repeat between * * around, join with sl st into 3rd ch (total 36 dc).
Round 4. ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in same st, 2 dc, *2 dc in same st, 2 dc* repeat between * * around, join with sl st into 3rd ch (total 48 dc).
Round 5. ch 3 (counts as dc), 1 dc in same st, 3 dc, *2 dc in same st, 3 dc* repeat between * * around, join with sl st into 3rd ch (total 60 dc).
The piece now covers almost the bottom of the jar but if you have a bigger jar you can continue the same way and increase dc between by 1 dc in each round. The next round should then be 2 dc in same st, 4 dc but make sure to have amount of stitches that can be divided by 10.
The body:
The pattern itself is a multiple of 10.
Round 6. ch
1, sc in same st, ch 4, sk next 3 st, sc in each of next 3 st, *ch 4, sk next 3
st, sc in next st, ch 4, sk next 3 st, sc in each of next 3 st*, repeat between
* * around, end with ch 2 and 1 dc in first sc at the beginning of rnd to form
the last ch 4 sp (12 sp).
Round 7. sc around ch 4 sp you ended forming in last rnd, ch 4, sc in next sp, ch 4, sk next sc, sc in next sc (the middle one of three from last rnd), *[ch4 , sc in next sp]x2, ch 4, sk next sc, sc in next sc (the middle one of three from last rnd)*, repeat between * * around, end with ch 2 and 1 dc in first sc at the beginning of rnd (18 sp).
Round 8. sc around ch 4 sp you ended forming in last rnd, 9 tr in next sp, sc in next sp, *ch4, sc in next sp, 9 tr in next sp, sc in next sp*, repeat between * * around, end with ch 2 and 1 dc in first sc at the beginning of rnd (total 6 shells and 6 sp).
Round 9. sc around ch 4 sp you ended forming in last rnd, ch 4, sk next 3 tr, sc in each of next 3 tr (the three one in the middle), *ch 4, sc in next sp, ch 4, sk next 3 tr, sc in each of next 3 tr*, repeat between * * around, end with ch 2 and 1 dc in first sc at the beginning of rnd (12 sp).
Repeat rnd 7-9 until the piece reaches the neck of the jar by stretching it up. End your repeating at rnd 8.
Weave in end and put the jar in the cover and do rnd 9 but have ch 3 sp between instead of ch 4 and end with ch 3 and sl st to first sc.
Then you are ready for the jar neck. I think it’s prettier to crochet around the neck but if you like you can stop here.
The neck:
Round 1. ch 1, *2 hdc in next sp, hdc in each of next 3 sc, 2 hdc in next sp, hdc in next sc*, repeat between * * around.
Round 2. hdc in each st (crochet in spiral rounds).
Repeat rnd 2 until you have covered the neck, end with sl st. Fasten off and weave in end.
